Biography and Commentary
Born in Kyoto in 1937. Graduated from the Japanese Painting Department of the Kyoto Municipal Hiyoshigaoka High School of Arts and Crafts in 1955. Solo exhibition (Toga Gallery, Kyoto) in 1966. Began producing the Major series in 1970. *Since then, he has presented works using majors and measuring instruments, as well as photographs and videos. 11th São Paulo Biennial in 1971. *Since then, he has participated in various international exhibitions in various countries. Received the Minister of Education Award at the 8th Tokyo International Print Biennial in 1972. Produced "Ford and Kwak" in 1974. *Since then, he has produced the "President and Kwak" series. Opened the Kyoto International Art Center in 1979. Modern Japanese Self-Portrait Exhibition (Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art) in 1982. Photography in Contemporary Art Exhibition (The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, etc.) in 1983. Received the Excellence Award at the 4th Seoul International Print Biennial in 1984.
